I won't repeat everything Annie wrote about the Summer Palace, since she covered pretty much everything. Basically, the empress wanted revenge and spent enormous amounts of money originally set aside for things like forming the navy fleet. She had a huge marble boat (that didn't go anywhere) built with those funds. There were also roofed docks with ornate carvings and tile. One thing that is unusual in China (and actually is found in many other countries as well) is that they don't like you to photograph the military people. You can take a picture of something else and if one of them is in the photo, that's okay, but they don't like it when you take a picture face front. So we took one from behind.
